Yes!!! I actually did it! This was like a dark cloud following me and raining on me wherever I went, but it's done!

I spent about 5 mins on the sketch, and about 2hrs on the piece itself.

I think we need a new topic.

Since It seems like everyone's busy, how about this, Let's make the new topic on Thursday of this week, and we wont submit until the monday after this upcoming monday (February 1st!). It will be like we're seeing into the future to get a head start on mondays topic. Whatchasay? Who'se gonna volunteer for this next topic?

So far I've restrained, because I think it can be discouraging, but I think at this point, It's more than ok to start heckling Eunice about her lack of posting.

A tribute to my anime upbringing... cool planes that go up into space exploring an asteroid orbiting a planet in a far off galaxy. This should be fun, hopefully I can get this done... and maybe catch up on the rest.

Flight Work In Progress

I want to finish this one, but I figured I'd post my progress for comments. It's inspired by my tattoo, which I'll post when I put up my final for this one. I was raised Catholic and have always been fascinated by Christian iconography (despite having since left my faith behind). Saint Luke is the patron saint of painters, and in illuminated manuscripts he's represented by a winged ox. I love the image of such a lumbering, ordinary creature with these angelic wings. So anyway, I'm struggling with how tightly I want to render the ox because I'm liking the simplicity of the background. It's taking on a slight art nouveau feeling that I may play with. Thoughts?

Topic #6: Flight

Hey, so here's a very broad topic:

Flight.

I wished I could do it since I was six years old. Airplanes are scary the first time you fly, and probably boring and annoying the most recent time that you've flown. Birds bones are filled with air. Hang gliders are probably the coolest thing since sliced bread.

No posts for the retro movie posters huh? Well I'm guilty too. The holidays can really mess with one's free time. Shall we extend the topic another week? I feel like this subject is a very cool idea and I'd hate to just skip it.

Claus

A darker take on Claus. I wanted to capture the spirit of a solitary North Pole wanderer. It occurs to me now that he now looks like an emo Santa. What you can't see is that under his cloak, he's wearing a Dashboard Confessional t-shirt he got at Hot Topic. This one took about an hour and a half. I'd love it if you guys would mention how long your posts take to make. Happy Holidays folks.

I wasn't told lies about Santa, instead I was always grateful that my parents would watch out and buy us the things we really wanted. Santa isn't too big in Turkey, and maybe that's because Santa is Turkish. Topic #4: Obligatory Holiday Theme

Okay, so I'm hijacking this week's topic and suggesting a totally original and unexpected, non-denominational, open-to-interperetation winter-solstice-proximate holiday theme. I have to force myself to get all holiday-ed up every year here in Los Angeles thanks to the not-very-wintery weather, so what better way to get the spirit than to draw things and put them on a blog? Bring on the cheer.

Opera Something or Other

I haven't posted until now because I spent all week being apathetic and stumped by my utter lack of clever takes on this week's topic. You see, the sum total of my knowledge of Opera can be summed up by Chuck Jones' "What's Opera Doc?" So what you'll find here is a rushed (it took about an hour) and ill-considered color study of a theater's exterior. You'd think that having gone to Art Center's grad show last night would have inspired me to excel and really dig deep to push myself. Well maybe you don't know me so well after all.

#2, Heist. This was a toughie. Hmmm.. I think my genius plan would be to steal a Sargent, and tell people it's a print (yea like that would ever work).

#1, Auto-Portrait. T-Bot. Yep. I drink too much tea, so i'd def be a tea bot. Why are my eyes glowing? Uhmm... Yea, don't ask.

The first thing that came to my mind was the scene in Amadeus when Salieri is describing Mozart’s work. The beauty and complexity of one instrument taking over another and finally coming together to complete the song. So I wanted to show the process of an Opera.

After thinking about what I could for this weeks subject... several thumbnails later I just decided to do an Opera singer from the future being showered in roses during her performance. I was greatly influenced by Alexander McQueen and Chinese Opera. I love his work... there is just so much there to play with. I can't wait to finish this one up. I love theatrics =)
